Preface

You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

2 Timothy 2:1–2

That charge is the burden behind this book and its companion website. Scripture tells us that the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua. But after that generation died, “there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel” (Judges 2:10, ESV).

Much of Western Europe already reflects a Christless culture. In America, false teaching, poor interpretation of Scripture, and unwise counsel plague our churches and seminaries. And American culture reflects that rot from within the church.

Every believer must know how to rightly respond to these dangers. The goal of this book and website is to provide resources for your journey toward a well-rounded Christian education. Most, if not all, of the book topics presented will come up at some point in your Christian walk.

Church member, it is important for you to understand what it is you are to be taught and what you should expect to hear in a sermon, in a Sunday School class, or in a Bible study. Faithful Bereans must be good students of the Word. Ignorance of the truth makes it hard to spot a counterfeit.

Brothers and sisters, leaders and laity alike, it is important to be reminded of the spiritual warfare that continues daily. The language of Scripture describes “fierce wolves,” “a roaring lion,” and a “great dragon.” The world is aligned against you. Even men who arise from within your own churches may lead believers astray (Acts 20:29-30). That is not a call to distrust your leaders. It is a call to hold them accountable. And it is a call to stay on guard and equip yourselves to fight the battles that will surely come.

This book and website are intended as useful tools for both shepherds and sheep. They will provide guidance regarding biblical instruction (orthodoxy) and biblical application (orthopraxy). My prayer is that they will be a lifelong aid to every believer. With the Lord’s help, future generations will continue to know the Lord and the work he has done for his people. May God be glorified through the sanctification of His children and the defeat of his enemies!
