Article 16

For Christ to be a complete prophet in every respect, He had to be both God and man. If He had not been God, He could not have perfectly known God's will. If He had not been man, He could not suitably have communicated that will to people in His own person. Scripture plainly declares that Jesus Christ is God: He is the mighty God, the Word who was God, God over all, God manifested in the flesh, and the true God. He is the first. He is before Abraham, forgives sins, gives existence to all things, remains the same forever, and is with His people to the end of the age. These could not be said of Jesus Christ, if He were not God. And to the Son he says “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.”

Scripture also plainly declares His perfect humanity: He was born of a woman, descended from David, Jesse, and Judah, shared our flesh and blood, took hold of the offspring of Abraham rather than angels, so that we are bone of His bone and flesh of His flesh. He that sanctifies and they that are sanctified are all of one.
