Article 36

Every church gathered in this way receives from Christ the authority, for its well-being, to choose from among its members qualified elders and deacons. Christ appointed these offices for feeding, governing, serving, and building up His church. No one outside the congregation has authority to impose these officers or anyone else upon it.¹
